I stayed in the Blue Swallow in 1991, when my son and I were traveling cross-country, shooting a doceumentary on Route 66. Miz Lillian was still the owner, but the old motel, like much of the rest of Rte 66, the Blue Swallow was in bad shape. Miz Lillian was a doll, however, I got a great interview. I haven't seen the motel since 1991, but my wife and I plan to head that way as soon as possible. From the photo of the remodeled front, I'm looking foward to once again "flying" the Blue Swallow. Thank you for continuing the history of Rte. 66. | ||

Better late than never. I was here and stayed over in January, 1976. Stopped over on a cross country drive from Connecticut to Anaheim, California. I remember checking in and talking with Lillian for awhile, but was pretty tired after driving non-stop from Illinois. It wasn't very late, so we checked into our rooms then went to Del's (which she recommended-I'm pretty sure it was Del's) to eat. The next morning Lillian knocked on the door and woke me up. I remember it was a beautiful, sunny but cool morning. The motel stood out because of Lillian. That was way before Route 66 became something other than a long road out west. Our trip became more 'fun' when the car broke down in Albuquerque. We ended up stuck there for 2 nights waiting to get it fixed, at a hotel on 66 behind a Denny's. I remember thinking how better it would have to have broken down in Tucumcari, where everything was less expensive. And unique. Great place, and I plan on staying there my next trip down 66. | ||
